The WorkSafe Saskatchewan initiative, spearheaded by the WCB and Saskatchewan Labour, promotes injury prevention as the single most effective way of reducing the human and financial costs of workplace injuries. Over the past three years, the WorkSafe Saskatchewan public information campaigns have been very effective in raising awareness about injury prevention and safety in the workplace.
The upcoming flight of WorkSafe advertising -- starting in February and running until mid-April, province-wide – will contain the elements from previous campaigns:
- Television and billboards ads feature the animated working character demonstrating proper technique in messages for safe lifting, fall prevention, ergonomics and safety gear
- Newspaper and radio ads feature testimonials from workplace representatives
- Transit advertising, this year featuring painted city buses in Regina and Saskatoon.
The 2006 ads will be posted on the WorkSafe Saskatchewan website as they are released.
The WorkSafe Saskatchewan website provides the resources needed for employers and workers to ensure health and safety on the job.
Market research after the spring and fall campaigns shows that the WorkSafe Saskatchewan promotion is having an impact:
- Awareness of WorkSafe Saskatchewan continues to be very high 65% at end of November 2005 compared to 37% in April, 2003.
- 65% of respondents attribute a positive influence from the WCB ads on their thinking about safety
- 92% of respondents expressed support for the WCB's continuing investment in safety campaigns.
- Nearly two-thirds of Saskatchewan residents (65%) say the WorkSafe ads have a positive influence on their thinking about workplace safety
- 83% of respondents correctly identified the campaign theme, "Safety is everyone's responsibility."
- More than 4 in 10 respondents say they have changed the way they do things at work because of WorkSafe. Practices mentioned were: using proper equipment, safer lifting and ergonomic improvement -- all themes of WorkSafe advertising.
